Istanbul Hagia Irene Museum Repair Works
Hagia Irene is among Istanbul's oldest known church structures and, after its early fourth-century phase, was rebuilt by Justinian following the Nika revolt of 532; its later use as an arsenal in the outer court of Topkapı Palace helped it survive as one of the rare Byzantine monuments in the city that was never converted into a mosque.
The building was commissioned by Emperor Constantine in the 4th century AD. Rebuilt by Emperor Justinian and later used as an armoury and military museum, it underwent repairs including the renewal of the interior timber stairs and replacement of the dome lead.
